The Fiat 131 is a family sedan manufactured and marketed by Fiat from 1974 to 1984 after its debut at the 1974 Turin Motor Show. Available as a two-door and four-door saloon and 5-door estate across a single generation, the 131 succeeded the Fiat 124 .

The SE 031 was tenuously based on Fiat's 131 which was launched at the Turin Motor Show in October 1974. A replacement for the 124, the 131 was available as either a two or four door saloon or a five door estate. When Fiat decided to retire the Stratos, the 131 became its unlikely successor. The two models could not have been more different.

By 1970's standards, the 131 Abarth was the pinnacle of sports cars; even taking down the more stylish Lancia Stratos that had dominated the rally stages since the early 70's. The success of the 131 was largely attributed to the Abarth designed mechanics and advanced suspension.
